Limnobium laevigatum is a free-floating aquatic plant from South America producing rosettes of rounded, spongy green leaves on the water surface. Its floating habit, attractive leaf rosettes, and effective nutrient uptake make it a practical and visually appealing choice for planted aquariums \u2014 particularly biotope-style set-ups and aquariums where additional surface plant coverage, water flow diffusion, or natural shading is desired.
It is extremely easy and undemanding, growing in low to medium light without any CO2 or fertilisation \u2014 it absorbs nutrients directly from the water column. Fast-growing under good conditions, it needs periodic thinning to prevent it covering the entire surface and blocking light to submerged plants. Fish fry and shrimp take shelter and forage among the trailing roots.
